Children and Young People

Children and young people have many issues to deal with in our modern society and are more aware than ever, of the world around them. There is pressure on them to conform to society's generally accepted norms and to achieve set targets.

Some find it overwhelming and struggle with separation anxiety, social anxiety, OCD and anger. Many behavioral issues are a child trying to tell us that something is wrong when they don't know what it is.

Working with a trained counsellor can help a child or young person to gain a better understanding of what they are feeling and what they might need. Often it can be difficult to talk through things with a parent as they fear punishment , anger or disappointment. Saying those things to a counsellor and not being judged for it can give them a sense of relief and open them up to the possibility that their parents may be okay with what they need to say.

'When I first started counselling, I guess I was lost, I didn't know myself, I was struggling with depression, lack of sleep, lack of self-esteem and other issues which I would rather keep private, and then I met Jeannette.

If I could describe her, I would use the words cool and amazing, she has never treated me different in any way or has been judgemental about me of any of my issues.

She has helped me through one to one counselling by accepting myself, and how to cope with accepting my feelings and learning that I can't change me. She has helped me to relax and made me laugh, she has a very comfortable aura to be around.'
